Tips Before Traveling Periyar National Park

On the mountain ranges of the Western Ghats, in the land of the gods, Kerala, lies the Periyar National Park and the Tiger Nature Reserve. The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is located in a vast and picturesque lake in the heart of the reserve. This river basin, formed after the construction of a dam in 1895, surrounded by wooded hills, is a permanent resource of water, precious for the entire wildlife in the area. Despite being a natural reserve of the tiger, visitors come here to watch the Indian elephants bathe and play at the Periyar lake.

Wildlife Attraction

During your visit to Periyar, you cannot fail to see the variety of its fauna. Periyar is synonymous with elephants; both are interconnected. Whole elephant groups have elected Periyar Lake to their favorite place to play in the water.

At Periyar there are at least 260 different species of birds.
Among these: why golden, cormorants, ibis, gray herons, starlings, flyweeds, golden orioles, wood pigeons, kingfishers, kites, hawks, thrushes, and a large number of blue-winged perches.
